Classical Concert: Max Wong, Diana Galvydyte and Joseph Edwards

18th Nov
7pm

The concert celebrates three renowned international soloists who live in Guernsey as members of the Hanois Ensemble.

Max Wong is Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music (FRSM). Diana Galvydyte is winner of the Windsor Violin Competition, laureate of the Heifetz Violin Competition and, until her move to Guernsey, Professor of Violin at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Joseph Edwards is Associate Baritone for Tenebrae, exceptionally awarded the honorary degree of DipRAM by the Royal Academy of Music. They collaborate with pianist Philip Howard, category winner at BBC Young Musicians’ and a historic winner of the International Gaudeamus Competition.

The programme starts with selections from Bach’s great Double Violin Concerto, followed by Schubert’s charming and lively “Grand Duo”, D. 574. Joseph Edwards curates a rich programme of Brahms Lieder songs. The second half welcomes Guernsey composer Martyn Dorey, who makes his debut at St James through two superlative compositions inspired by home and far away lands. Prokofiev’s Second Violin Sonata, the Russian composer’s chamber music masterpiece, is equally brilliant and virtuosic for violin (Op. 94a) and flute (Op. 94). The programme ends with Sarasate’s formidable and dazzling Navarra for Two Violins.
