Proms on the Wicket 2023

9th Sep
2:30pm

Proms on the Wicket returns for the 17th year after 2022 was postponed due to HM The Queen's passing. Join us this year on Saturday 9 September at the KGV Playing Fields!

For the first time the event will stage a Family Prom at 4.30pm with the Mini Big Band Collective performing songs from all your favourite musicals including Wicked, Grease and The Greatest Showman. Children are encouraged to come along dressed as their favourite musical characters.

The live music will continue at 8pm with performances from two of Guernsey’s most established choirs: Bel Canto led by Christine Anthony MBE and the Guernsey Welsh Male Voice Choir conducted by Fiona Le Tissier.

Bel Canto celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is made up predominantly of ladies who attended the Schools’ Music Service and were members of the Guernsey Girls’ Choir. The choir has visited Biberach on a number of occasions and also competed in the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year competition.

The Guernsey Welsh Male Voice Choir was formed in 2003 by a group of expatriates from the Guernsey Rugby Club who decided the time had come for Guernsey to experience the sound of a Welsh male voice choir. The choir has grown to be 40 strong with a mix of Welsh and non-Welsh members and was selected to perform as part of the 120 strong male voice choir which entertains the crowd prior to the home Six Nations games at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The musical theme continues with two films on the big screen: Sing 2 at 2.30pm and Oscar winning La La Land which will take you back to the old Hollywood classics at 5.45pm.

The evening will finish with the second half of the Last Night of the Proms live from the Albert Hall. Following long standing tradition the BBC Symphony Orchestra performs for the final concert of the Proms series and this year will be conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska and will feature soprano Lise Davidsen and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

Proms on the Wicket remains free to attend thanks to the support of principal sponsor Aspida Advisory Services and supporting sponsors Guernsey Arts, Guernsey Press, Specsavers and Utmost Worldwide.

‘Aspida is very proud to be able to support an event that brings music to such a wide audience. The mix of live music, which showcases the high standard of musicians we have in Guernsey, and two musicals on the big screen means there is something for everyone to enjoy.'
