Subs Not Dubs, a new film night dedicated to contemporary foreign language cinema, returns to Mallard Cinema on Thursday 30 April 2026 with The Secret Agent (2025), the Oscar and BAFTA nominated thriller directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho.
It follows Armando (Wagner Moura), a former professor caught in the political turmoil of the Brazilian military dictatorship, attempting to flee persecution and resist an authoritarian regime.
Time Out Magazine said that “The Secret Agent is vicious and vivid in its sense of place and danger. But it also has a streak of weirdness and offers a very human take on the political-crime thriller genre.”
Created and hosted by Wynter Tyson, Subs Not Dubs is focused on bringing the best of new foreign language cinema to Guernsey.
Wynter Tyson said “With a handful of community led film nights, there are many great films being screened in Guernsey but there isn’t currently a place for new foreign language films. Subs Not Dubs seeks to fill this gap and hopefully next year’s major awards contenders won’t just be a list of movies that we haven’t had a chance to watch yet.”
The Secret Agent is screening at 6.30pm on Thursday 30 April at Mallard Cinema. Tickets can be booked via www.mallardcinema.co.uk or on the Mallard Cinema app.
