Discovering Guernsey Film Night in the Café

10th Aug
7pm

Another chance to see Guernsey through different eyes

This informal evening in the relaxed environment of the new Café at St James will comprise a showing of the Discovering Guernsey film, accompanied by a talk, which develops many of the themes and people featured in the film.

Part documentary, part promotional, the film showcases the island’s rich history, its people and its spectacular scenery. It has been widely praised by a cross section of visitors, tour guides and organisations involved in attracting residents and businesses to the island – as well as by many locals keen to learn more about their home.

The 30 minute film will be followed by a talk by Stephen Foote, Vice Chairman of The Guernsey Society and publisher of many books on Guernsey and its people under the Blue Ormer label. He will pick up on many of the themes featured in the film and add many more which are not widely known, even by locals. He will explore some of the ways in which Guernsey has made its mark on the world, through trade and commerce, exports and emigration and through the exploits of Guernsey men and women – both notable and notorious.

“The film is a whistle-stop tour through the history of Guernsey, featuring animation, old photographs, modern-day location shots and stunning drone footage, while a friendly, authoritative narrator links everything together concisely”. – The Guernsey Press

A fully stocked bar and warm snacks will be available throughout the evening.
