Fanny Davies International Piano Series presents Leon McCawley

15th Feb
7:30pm

An exquisite artist with the highest international reputation, Leon McCawley more regularly appears at venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall and New York’s Lincoln Center but performs for The Fanny Davies International Piano Series at St James this February.

His programme will give this artist every opportunity to demonstrate his unfailing ability to communicate musical characters and emotions from the keys. We will be treated to one of the most endearing and popular Classical sonatas of Haydn, followed by two exquisite Chopin Nocturnes, and Beethoven’s fiery ‘Les Adieux’ Sonata, which follows the departure of the composer’s patron, Archduke Rudolph, from Vienna after Napoleon’s 1809 attack. The program also features Brahms’ two dark and dramatic Rhapsodies before concluding with Schumann’s Carnival Jest from Vienna, a work not without its moments of heart-breaking and introspective sorrow, but ultimately one which finds its way to a celebratory conclusion.

Leon McCawley will work with talented local piano students in the 4pm workshop, and anyone is welcome to attend with no tickets required.
