Half Term – Create your own mug workshop

23rd Feb
11:30am - 1pm

Our most popular ceramic workshop is back! This class is great for aspiring young potters who love getting creative with clay. Mugs aren’t just for adults, allowing children and teens to create a functional ceramic piece but also allowing them to be free and creative with their design is so important. It gives such a huge sense of achievement when they see their finished piece glazed and fired, ready to enjoy at home.

This 1.5 hour workshop covers the basic fundamentals of making a mug. During the session we will cover:

• The design of your mug
• Preparing the clay
• Creating slabs (by rolling pin or slab roller)
• Forming handles

They will be able to experiment with adding texture to the outside of the mug using a variety of the tools available at the studio. They will learn basic building and joining skills that can be applied to many other hand build applications.  After the workshop, the mugs will bisque fired, covered in clear food safe glaze and fired again. They will be ready for pick up 6-8 weeks after the workshop.

All materials are included (clay, tools, glazing and firing), just bring your creative juices and ideas.

If you love hand building we’re also hosting a bowl and spoon workshop from 11.30-1pm on Tuesday 21st February. If you take part in both hand building activities during half term (both 11am sessions on Tuesday and Thursday) you will have the opportunity to create an egg cup during one of the sessions so that you have a full breakfast set (Just like the Great Pottery Throwdown last year!)

This class is suitable for ages 8+

Please note that we require a minimum of 8 students to be able to run this class, and sadly will have to cancel if we don’t have sufficient interest.
