Ladies College presents: Les Miserables

28th Jan - 30th Dec
7pm

The Ladies' College is very proud to present their production of Les Miserables.

The show, which follows the story of Jean Val Jean - convict, turned mayor, turned revolutionary - is one of toil and challenge, as the title suggests, but also of great bravery, hope and the human spirit of standing up together for what is right.

The very talented cast is made up of students from The Ladies' College, as well as from Elizabeth College, Les Varendes and the College of Further Education. These students have worked together to share their talents - in singing, acting and dancing - to bring you a production that celebrates its 40th year on the West End this year, as well as holding a very special place in the hearts of islanders, the original novel having been written here in 1862.

Although the narrative follows Jean Val Jean, it also focuses more widely on a gamut of people in Paris in the melee of the June Uprisings in Paris 1832: while there is rebellion from Enjolras and his fellow students, and a constant threat of the law from Javert, there is also love that blossoms between Marius and Cosette and light-hearted relief from the wiley Thenardiers, who con and trick their way from being innkeepers to 'hob-nobbing among the elite'. Les Miserables shows people at their worst and at their best, and Hugo very cleverly captures in his characters what is means to be human - in love, war and survival.

With a live orchestra, made up of current Ladies' College students and alumni, as well as professionals with ties to the college, there are some show-stoppers to look forward to, including: One Day More and Do You Hear The People Sing. We warmly invite you to what promises to be a very special production.
