MORPHEUS PIANO TRIO
7:30pm
Morpheus Piano Trio members Amy Dodds, Sally Singer Tuttle and Tom Hicks originate from the US, England and Guernsey respectively. They share a common interest in presenting works from Britain and featuring composers who may not have received full recognition in their time in history.
The trio members met as colleagues at Whitman College, Washington State, and continue to perform together as Dr. Hicks assumes a new position at the College of Charleston, South Carolina. The ensemble is named after Rebecca Clarke’s chamber work Morpheus, titled after the greek god of dreams.
Collectively the trio members have performed internationally in venues such as the Wigmore and Albert Halls of London, Glinka Hall, St. Petersburg, Russia, Notre Dame de Paris, and Alice Tully Hall, New York, and have received critical acclaim for numerous recordings in solo and chamber genres by reviewers representing Gramophone, The Strad, Fanfare, The American Record Guide, International Piano and Classical Music Daily. They have received first prizes in the Polk Competition of the Claremont Colleges, the national Sister Mary Faustina Memorial Competition, the John Ireland Chamber Music Competition, the Sydney Wright Duo Competition, the Wales International Piano Competition, the EPTA UK Piano Competition, and the Croydon Piano Concerto Competition. Schools attended include Walla Walla University, Claremont, the Royal Northern College of Music, Stony Brook University, Yale and Northwestern University.
Sally’s most recent chamber recording paired piano trios of Brahms and Clara Schumann in 2019, Tom’s latest releases in 2022 were Liszt and Ireland Piano Sonatas and Blue Sounds and Amy and Sally finished recording chamber and solo works of New York composer John David Earnest in the spring of this year.
