For its production of Peter Shaffer’s masterful and deeply unsettling “why-done-it”, MTG invites you to step into the shadows of Guernsey’s most haunting space. In the echoing tunnels of the German Underground Hospital, the electrifying psychological drama unfolds within touching distance.
A young man commits a shocking act of violence against six horses. The psychiatrist tasked with understanding why soon finds himself confronting uncomfortable truths about faith, passion, repression and the insidious price of normality. Enveloped within the dim concrete tunnels of Guernsey’s occupation era, audiences will be drawn into an intense, immersive experience where the line between observer and participant begins to blur. Every whisper carries. Every silence presses in. The setting amplifies the play’s primal energy, making the ritual, the obsession, and the danger feel unsettlingly close. This is Equus as you’ve never seen it before: visceral, intimate, and unforgettable. A daring piece of theatre in a place that remembers fear, endurance, and survival.
