Once Upon an Island, a Guernsey Folklore Trail

22nd Oct - 22nd Oct

This island wide folklore trail is in association with the newly released Once Upon an Island, a Treasury of Guernsey Folklore, written and illustrated by Penny Dawes.

Discover Guernsey’s ancient folklore on this trail of 20 posts across the island. Each post will be placed in the exact area the tale originated. The illustration, tale and QR code, which when scanned will play an audio storytelling of the full tale performed by a member of Guernsey History in Action Company will be on display at every stop on the trail. This trail is in collaboration with Visit Guernsey and Guernsey Museums and will be open to the public from October 22nd until October 2023.

This trail of lost tales of ancient Guernsey folklore will transport you to an enchanted island of wizards and witches (of both white witchcraft and dark magic), potions and spells, fairies, mermaids and superstitions. Once Upon an Island explores the historical and cultural traditions behind the origin of each tale, allowing modern-day islanders to discover how our ancestors felt about the natural world.

Once Upon an Island has been published by Blue Ormer Publishing and is available at www.blueormer.co.uk

This trail has kindly been Supported by Guernsey Arts, Guernsey Museums, Visit Guernsey and The National Trust of Guernsey.
