Channel Islands LGBTQ+ Writing Competition 2025

Channel Islands LGBTQ+ Writing Competition 2025

The Channel Islands LGBTQ+ Writing Competition is now open for entries!

Fancy winning a £100 voucher of your choice? Now’s your chance.

In its fifth year, it is free to enter and you do not have to be LGBTQ+ to participate.
Anybody who was born in, lives in, or has lived in the Channel Islands can submit one entry of up to 1,000 words with an LGBTQ+ theme.

Liberate Guernsey CEO Ellie Jones said: “We love seeing what people send in - whether they bring us cheer or to tears. The Channel Islands are a really unique place so we get these really interesting perspectives and, since the rules are so open, a huge variety of styles. It always brings to light serious creative talent.”

Entries are submitted into one of two categories: ‘Under 18s’ and ‘18 and Over.’ An independent panel of judges will anonymously decide a winner for each category. Each winner will be awarded with a £100 voucher, and the Pippa McCathie memorial trophy will be awarded for the third year.

As a first this year entrants are able to request where the voucher is for, and are encouraged to support local Channel Islands small businesses where possible. They could even choose to donate a voucher of their choice to another locally registered charity that they would like to support.

Winners will be announced on Thursday 22 May at an awards ceremony at Guille-Alles Library, which is open to the public with online attendance possible.

“The competition is there to educate and inform people on what it’s like to be
LGBTQ+ in the Channel Islands today, and it gives local aspiring writers a
chance to get their work out there. So the more the merrier!”

All entries must be submitted by Wednesday 30 April via this link:
